Readings & Workshops

25-years

Since her first step onto the stage at the 1994 Cultural Explosion at Shippensburg University, Maria James-Thiaw has been moving audiences with her powerful poetic performances. Today, she continues to read her work and also creates choreopoems that are performed by other dynamic actresses.  Her first choreopoem, Reclaiming my time was an amazing success and this, her 25th year as a performance poet and professional writer, she will team up with Sankofa African American Theater in Harrisburg to create the choreopoem Bridging the Gap. In addition, through her nonprofit organization, Reclaim Artist Collective, Maria conducts workshops, classes, and residencies that help emerging writers and youth find their voice and express themselves creatively.  For more information, visit www.ReclaimArts.org.

April 6th 2013 reading for Moonstone Press in Philadelphia. “Keeping It Real” received a head-nod from the great Sonia Sanchez! I’m still glowing from that moment. 🙂
